Training load calculator (sRPE)
Session load is duration multiplied by how hard the session felt on a 1–10 scale. That single number is how professional fitness staff track workload, and it needs no GPS vests, no heart-rate belts and no budget.
540
load units (min × RPE)
Moderate
Standard training load. Sustainable multiple times per week.
The sRPE method (session-RPE, Foster) is the simplest way to track training load without GPS: duration × perceived effort. Track it weekly to spot load spikes before they become injuries.
How to calculate sRPE training load
Time the session
Record the session duration in minutes — the actual working time, not the time from arrival to departure.
Ask for an RPE
After the session, ask each player how hard it felt from 1 (very easy) to 10 (maximal). Ask individually and shortly after finishing, or the answers converge on whatever the loudest player said.
Multiply
Load equals minutes multiplied by RPE. A 70-minute session rated 7 is a load of 490 arbitrary units.
Read it in context
One number means little. Compare this week against the rolling average of the last four: a sharp spike is the signal worth acting on.
sRPE is a perceived measure, so it captures psychological load a GPS unit cannot — and it is only as good as honest answers.
The units are arbitrary. They are comparable to the same squad's previous weeks, not to another team's numbers.
